SUNDAY MARCH 23rd, on LONGSANDS BEACH in Tynemouth
Read on for more information and scroll down to register!
Kick off the day with a Skills Clinic hosted by Emma Benany from British Rowing and coaches and members of Tynemouth Rowing Club, one of the first GB Coastal Sculling Academies - and the only one in the North East!
It will cover:
Rowing on the sea safely
Boat handling and steering
Getting in and out of the boat (entries and exits)
Slaloms and 180 turns
You will row in a provided Solo and/or a Double.
In the afternoon, there will be an opportunity to complete a time trial and try out the side-by-side course.
The Beach Sprint will begin with a 10-50m run to the boat, held by your boat handlers. You then row out onto the course, slaloming around buoys, before turning and rowing back to the beach, finishing with a repeat of the run to the start/finish line.
PLEASE READ THE BELOW CAREFULLY BEFORE REGISTERING
Boats will be provided. Please bring your own blades where possible; this is the norm for Beach Sprint events. Blades can be hired but please note that availability is limited.
If you haven't already competed in Beach Sprints or trained with Emma or Heather you MUST complete a Skills Clinic in the morning to be allowed to row in the afternoon Taster. There are 2 Skills Clinics but they will cover the same content - you only need to register for one of them!
If you are taking part in the afternoon Taster, you must have 2 boat handlers with you. If your boat handlers haven't already competed in Beach Sprints or trained with Emma or Heather, they MUST attend the same Skills Clinic as you to learn boat handling (this is uncharged for boat handlers).
If you can't attend a morning Skills Clinic as a rower or boat handler, please contact Heather at hello@tynemouthrowing.club to organise a separate session.
For the afternoon Taster session, please note that you must choose to row in either a SOLO or a DOUBLE - you cannot do both. Please use the drop-down box to select your category - and if you choose DOUBLE, please be sure to enter the name of your doubles partner so we can match your entries up (you will need to enter separately and nominate each other).
Before you register or email with questions, please familiarise yourself with the WELFARE PLAN, COMPETITOR INFORMATION and SAFETY PLAN, all linked below - these documents contain a lot of crucial information and will answer most questions you might have.
Due to the nature of the event, we cannot accept registrations from rowers under 16. For rowers 16-18, please contact Heather to discuss your entry before registering.
